Move

The first step in the experiment is to tie the dog's mouth, being wary of being bitten. For tame dogs, approach from the side and gently stroke the fur on the back of the collar, then quickly tie the mouth with a securing strap, tying a knot in the upper jaw, circling back to the lower jaw to tie a second knot, and then leading to the back of the neck to tie a third knot on the collar (Fig. 1).

For untamed dogs, the dog's neck can be clamped with a pair of dog headcrappers, the dog can be pinned to the ground, and its mouth tied or anesthetized intravenously before removing the headcrappers. Finally, the dog is placed on a lab bench and the head is immobilized first, then the limbs (similar to the rabbit immobilization method (the same as the rabbit fixation method).

When doing chronic experiments, the experimenter can achieve full cooperation in the experiment if he/she feeds the dog himself/herself every day and gradually tames it. For some non-stimulating, painless experiments, the dog will also obey and cooperate.
